I really enjoyed this game (actually it's a tactical simulation). It does have a bit of a learning curve if you decide to use manual targeting system, instead of letting the computer do everything. It has excellent graphics, and as far as I can tell, the actual weapons systems look authentic. What I really like about this game, is that you are not limited to just being in a submarine. Yes if you want to use just the subs you can, but you also have the ability to use the P-3 Orion ASW Maritime Patrol Aircraft, the MH-60R Seahawk (a variant of the Blackhawk helicopter), and the Oliver Hazard Perry class FFG (a surface warfare ship). There are basically 3 factions in this game. You have the U.S.,the Chinese, and the Russians. If you chose the Russians, or the Chinese, you are only limited to using subs. But if you decide to play as the U.S. you have access to the vehicles listed above, plus numerous U.S. subs. One interesting thing to note, is that this game does have a multiplayer online ability. When you take advantage of this, you can assign people to different stations, such as: sonar, weapons, etc.. etc. This is where the multiplayer realism really comes into play. For those without the ability to play online, or the lack of desire to, this game can be played offline as well. It is also important to note, that in single player you can command your crew using voice commands, as long as you have a microphone plugged in. All in all, this is a great game for those who are into tactical simulations, and for anyone else who takes the time to read the included 600 page manual. I'll admit, I never read the whole manual (just the sections that matter), and I haven't had any problems with playing the game.
I was unable to install this product, the auto run did not work and I could not run it manually from the disk. I tried it on a Win XP & Win 8 machine with the same results on both. The disk comes with a warning that the autorun may take a few minutes to run but I waited for 30 minutes with the disk spinning in the drive and still nothing happened.

This game would not install on a Windows 7 machine. It asked for a non-existent second disk (there is one DVD-ROM in the package). I ended up having to download it from Steam.
Once it installed from Steam it worked fine. As far as whether it is a good game, it is a great simulation of several modern naval combat platforms.
5つ星のうち4.0Wow -- not a 'point and shoot' game in ANY sense!

I really liked 688I by Janes and decided on a change of pace. This has many of the 688I look and feel to some of the screens and players of that game will get into this one quickly as long as you stick with the 688I and maybe the Seawolf. You go to the Fast Frigate or the SH-60 without the manual and you'll be a blithering idiot in a few minutes. Good interface BUT the first thing you need to do after installing it is to go to the home site and download the MASSIVE patch they have. I experienced NO problems with the game before the patch because I didn't even open it but to get to the home site. I read a lot about the 'bugginess' of the application and have not experienced ANY problems or system hangups on my system (P-4 3.1GHZ Topend Video card)I ordered the manual from the vendor - nice job but I wish it was in color. I wish the online instructions were in color! THAT was a minor point but I have a color copier at my disposal and would have liked a color manual - call me 'spoiled'. Game play is NOT for the faint of heart. It is a 'complex' game - not a 'hard' game. It reminds me of learning Chess - you just can't jump in and 'do it' - there is a learning curve and with 7 platforms to control, that learning curve is not STEEP but it IS long. Technically, this game is very good albeit it simplified from the 'real' platforms, but what the hey!! This is a GAME and is not classified in any respects, although years ago, the feds would have had a fit with Sonanalysts for publishing this. Again - this is NOT a point and shoot game. This is a technological, military, multi-platformed, CHESS game and if you want to be good at it - you will have to study it and learn it. If you want 'point and shoot' - you will be VERY disappointed with this game. Me?? I am happy as a pig in ..... well you know with this game. I can spend hours on a mission and enjoy it immensely. This game is NOT for 'kids' or quick reward play.
